Protecting My Most Valuable Assets: A Personal Journey

Inma Moreno personal journey protecting most valuable assets

Life has a way of presenting us with challenges that reshape our perspectives in profound ways. For me, receiving a serious illness diagnosis followed by the tragic loss of my brother years ago became pivotal moments that redefined my understanding of what truly matters. These experiences taught me that our most valuable assets aren’t always what society deems significant; rather, they lie in our health, family, and the quality time we spend with ourselves and our loved ones.

The Wake-Up Call

When I was 21 years-old, I was diagnosed with a serious genetic illness that caused blindness in all the affected members of three generations of my family as far as I know, it felt like my world had been turned upside down.

Suddenly, I was confronted with my own fragility, forced to consider what it meant to live a healthy life. My focus shifted from career ambitions and societal expectations to prioritising my wellbeing. I began to realise that no position, salary, or luxury possession could fill the void of health when it’s at stake.

Tragically, this moment of introspection was soon followed by the devastating loss of my brother in an accident. He wasn’t just family; he was the most kind and loving person that I met even until today. His untimely passing, leaving a 13-month-old child behind, forced me to confront the harsh reality that life is unpredictable. It was a stark reminder that tomorrow isn’t promised, and the things we often take for granted can vanish in an instant.

Reevaluating Priorities

These experiences sparked a major reevaluation of my life. I began to understand that our most valuable assets are not material possessions but rather the intangible elements that enrich our lives: our health, our relationships, and our time.

Health  (❁´◡`❁):

After my diagnosis, I recognised that good health is the foundation for everything else. So, what if I could break the chain in my family’s genetic illness? What if I could reverse what triggered the unwanted gene?.

I started focusing on wellness—both physical and mental.  A balanced diet, regular exercise and stress management practices became non-negotiables. I travelled around the world to learn techniques that will help me. Prioritising health isn’t just about avoiding illness; it’s about ensuring a quality life that allows me to enjoy every moment.

Family 💞

The bond we share with our loved ones is irreplaceable. After losing my brother, I shifted my focus from climbing the corporate ladder to investing in relationships that matter. Family gatherings, shared meals, and simply being present with those I love became my new priorities. The laughter of family and the comfort of shared experiences are priceless treasures that enrich my life far beyond any promotion could.

Quality Time 😊:
Finally, I learned to value time—both the time I spend with others and the time I take for myself. I began carving out moments for self-reflection, hobbies, and relaxation. Whether it’s a quiet evening with a good book or an adventure with friends, these moments nourish my soul in ways that work never could.

The Learnings

In the face of illness and loss, I discovered a renewed appreciation for what truly matters. The pursuit of status and wealth pales in comparison to the joys of health, family, and quality time. I now see these as my most valuable assets, ones worth protecting fiercely. Life is too short to be consumed by the rat race; instead, we should cherish the moments that truly define us.

These learnings have not only transformed my destiny but also equipped me to assist individuals and corporations in improving their own lives. By sharing my insights, I help others to reevaluate their priorities and foster a culture that values wellbeing and meaningful connections.

As I continue on this journey, I encourage others to reflect on their own priorities. What do you value most? Are you nurturing your most precious assets? It’s never too late to reevaluate and make choices that align with what truly brings you joy. After all, the real treasures in life often lie not in what we possess but in the love we share and the experiences we create.
